Leaves Door Open

Pete Buttigieg has formally announced that he will not be seeking Michigan’s soon-to-be-open U.S. Senate seat, a decision that has ignited discussions regarding his future political aspirations, especially concerning a possible presidential campaign in 2028.

Buttigieg, who held the position of U.S. Transportation Secretary and previously participated in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries, revealed this week that he will not be launching a campaign for either the Senate or the governorship of Michigan in 2026, despite prior indications that he was contemplating both possibilities.

“I have a profound concern for who Michigan will choose as Governor and who will represent us in the U.S. Senate next year, but I have opted not to enter either race,” Buttigieg stated on the social media platform X. “Although my personal plans do not involve running for office in 2026, I remain deeply committed to articulating and advocating for a vision for the future.”
