Buttigieg, who held the position of U.S. Transportation Secretary and previously participated in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries, revealed this week that he will not be launching a campaign for either the Senate or the governorship of Michigan in 2026, despite prior indications that he was contemplating both possibilities.
“I have a profound concern for who Michigan will choose as Governor and who will represent us in the U.S. Senate next year, but I have opted not to enter either race,” Buttigieg stated on the social media platform X. “Although my personal plans do not involve running for office in 2026, I remain deeply committed to articulating and advocating for a vision for the future.”
