President Donald Trump is demanding the prosecution and imprisonment of California Democrat Senator Adam Schiff, following the emergence of new documents that accuse the long-time critic of Trump of committing mortgage fraud.
“Adam ‘Shifty’ Schiff is in BIG TROUBLE!” Trump stated on Truth Social on Sunday. “He falsified Loan Documents. He previously claimed my son would be imprisoned due to a SCAM that Schiff, along with other Corrupt Democrats, illegally ‘manufactured’ to orchestrate an actual coup,” as reported by Fox News.
“My son did nothing wrong and was unaware of the fabricated narrative,” he continued. “It was an American Tragedy! Now Shifty should face the consequences of imprisonment for a genuine crime, not one concocted by the dishonest accusers!”
The allegations arise from a letter sent by the Federal Housing Finance Agency to the Department of Justice in May. The letter claims that Schiff “falsified bank documents and property records to secure more favorable loan terms,” affecting mortgage payments from 2003 to 2019 for a residence in Potomac, Maryland.
The FHFA is responsible for overseeing Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Bank System.
On Tuesday, Trump reiterated his stance, referencing a report from Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division that indicated Schiff was involved in “a sustained pattern of possible occupancy misrepresentation” across five Fannie Mae loans.
“Adam Schiff claimed that his primary residence was in MARYLAND to obtain a cheaper mortgage and defraud America, when he is required to RESIDE in CALIFORNIA as he was a Congressman from CALIFORNIA,” Trump posted. “I have always known Adam Schiff to be a Crook. The FRAUD commenced with the refinancing of his Maryland property on February 6, 2009, and persisted through several transactions until the Maryland property was accurately classified as a second home on October 13, 2020.”
Schiff’s office did not provide a response to a request for comment from Fox News Digital on Monday.
The senator from California dismissed the allegations earlier this month, labeling them as political retaliation, as reported by Realtor.com.
“Since I was the one who led his initial impeachment, Trump has consistently called for my arrest on charges of treason,” Schiff stated on X. “In a sense, I suppose this is somewhat disappointing. However, this unfounded attempt at political retribution will not deter me from holding him accountable. Not in the slightest.”
The Los Angeles Times examined the memo and verified that it did not charge Schiff with any crime. Rather, it indicated that Schiff and his spouse, Eve, had listed both their Maryland and California residences as primary homes at various times between 2009 and 2020, which raised concerns regarding occupancy representation.
On Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Schiff disregarded a reporter’s inquiry regarding Trump’s allegations and simply responded, “Have a nice day.”
In a five-minute YouTube video titled “Trump Just Threatened Me Directly. I’m Not Backing Down,” Schiff accused Trump of attempting to divert attention from the controversy surrounding the Epstein case.
He remarked that Trump is “utilizing my ownership of two residences to fabricate a claim of mortgage fraud, but the reality is that this is Donald Trump attempting to enact political retribution, retaliation, and distract from his issues related to the Epstein file.”
“A president who threatens prosecution or suggests that his opponent should be imprisoned—this is the type of behavior one expects from tinpot dictators,” Schiff asserted.
Days following the president’s post about Senator Schiff, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard appeared on Fox News and elaborated on how she claimed the recent documents she declassified revealed “overwhelming evidence” that former President Obama and his national security team orchestrated the Trump-Russian collusion hoax.
“This outlines the over 100 documents you are referring to, which I have declassified and made public. It elaborates in great detail on the actions taken by some of the most influential individuals in our nation, specifically President Obama and his top national security advisors, including James Comey, John Brennan, James Clapper, and Susan Rice, among others. They made a deliberate choice to fabricate this politicized intelligence with the aim of undermining the will of the American populace,” she stated.
