During a White House press conference, President Donald Trump had to abruptly end his speech due to a medical emergency.
At that moment, he was administering the oath of office to television personality Dr. Memhet Oz, who is set to become the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under Trump’s administration.
The briefing was concluded by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who instructed reporters to leave the room after a girl fainted during the event, as reported by the Irish Star. ‘Press out,’ Leavitt was heard stating.
Upon recognizing a serious situation, President Trump abruptly ended his speech and departed from the podium to provide assistance.
He was overheard expressing concern, stating, ‘I hope she’s OK.’ Dr. Oz was observed quickly leaving the camera’s view to render aid. Footage captured the young girl being swiftly escorted out of the room.
The White House subsequently confirmed that a ‘minor family member’ had fainted during the ceremony, reassuring that she is now in good health. The official statement noted, ‘A minor family member fainted during Dr. Oz’s swearing-in ceremony in the Oval Office. We are pleased to report that she is fine.’
During the introduction of Dr. Oz, Trump remarked that he has achieved recognition as one of the country’s most esteemed and cherished medical experts. The president proceeded to outline Dr. Oz’s credentials, noting his graduation from Harvard University, as well as his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Wharton School, respectively.
Dr. Oz subsequently served as a heart surgeon and a professor of cardiac surgery at Columbia University, in addition to holding the position of Director of the Cardiovascular Institute and the integrative medicine program at New York Presbyterian Hospital. In 2009, he launched his health and wellness talk show, The Dr. Oz Show, which concluded in 2022.
Throughout the years his program aired, it faced criticism due to certain contentious medical recommendations made by Dr. Oz to the viewers.
Notably, his claim that green coffee extract serves as a ‘miraculous weight loss remedy’ was denounced by the Federal Trade Commission.
Earlier this month, Dr. Oz’s appointment to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services was ratified by a Senate vote of 53-45.
