Batman and Top Gun actor Val Kilmer passes away at age 65 – The cause of death

Hollywood actor Val Kilmer, celebrated for his roles in iconic films from the 1980s and 90s such as Top Gun and Batman Forever, has passed away at the age of 65.

Kilmer, known for his captivating and often mysterious persona, died on Tuesday in Los Angeles. He achieved significant acclaim for his performances in The Doors, Top Gun, and Batman Forever, leaving a profound impact on both audiences and critics.

His extensive career showcased his remarkable versatility, as he seamlessly transitioned between various genres, including action, comedy, and historical dramas. Kilmer first gained major recognition in 1984 with the comedic spy film Top Secret!, where his charm and comedic timing were immediately evident. However, it was his role as rock icon Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors (1991) that truly showcased his exceptional talent.

In addition to his leading roles, Kilmer also shone in supporting parts. His performance as Iceman in Top Gun (1986) established him as a notable figure in Hollywood, and in Heat (1995), he proved his mettle alongside legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.

The cause of his death was confirmed to be pneumonia, following a long battle with throat cancer that began in 2014. His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, shared the news, highlighting the enduring influence he had on the film industry.

In a statement to the New York Times, Mercedes confirmed that her father passed away at his home in Los Angeles on April 1. The announcement has elicited a wave of sorrow from fans and fellow actors, all of whom remember the significant legacy he left in cinema.

Actor Josh Brolin was among those who paid tribute, sharing a touching message on Instagram alongside a photo of the two. “See ya, pal. I’m going to miss you,” Brolin wrote. “You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually arrive.”
