Washington, D.C. – In a bold move that’s sending shockwaves through Democrat-run sanctuary cities, Republican Congressman Buddy Carter (R-GA) has introduced legislation that would finally hold radical mayors accountable for the deadly consequences of their reckless immigration policies.
The bill, known as the **ERIC ADAMS Act**—a not-so-subtle jab at New York City’s sanctuary mayor—is officially titled the Establishing Responsibility for Illegals’ Crimes and Adding Deterrence and Accountability for Mayors’ Sanctuary Cities Act. Its mission is simple but powerful: force accountability on local officials who shelter illegal aliens and then act shocked when tragedy follows.
If passed, this game-changing bill would allow federal prosecutors to charge mayors of sanctuary cities with criminal negligence resulting in manslaughter — a felony that carries up to seven years in prison — when an illegal immigrant commits a murder in their jurisdiction and the city’s sanctuary policy directly contributed to the crime.
In other words: if you knowingly harbor illegal aliens, ignore federal law, and someone dies as a result, you could go to prison.
And it’s about time.
Rep. Carter, who once served as a mayor himself, explained the bill’s purpose clearly: “The ERIC ADAMS Act will hold mayors of sanctuary cities criminally liable for murders committed in their jurisdictions by illegal aliens.”
Carter is speaking for millions of Americans fed up with watching Democrat politicians prioritize political correctness and cheap labor over the safety of their own citizens. His proposed legislation comes in the wake of the brutal murder of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student killed by an illegal alien in Athens, Georgia—a sanctuary city that, like so many others, ignored immigration law in favor of virtue signaling.
“Laken Riley and countless others could still be alive today if our immigration laws were respected,” Carter said in a statement to Fox News. “These mayors have blood on their hands, and it’s time they are held accountable.”
Carter isn’t playing politics—he’s taking a stand for justice. In another post on X (formerly Twitter), he reinforced that mayors who willingly undermine public safety by sheltering criminal illegals should face real consequences: “I’ve been a mayor. I understand the role they play in public safety. That’s why I introduced the ERIC ADAMS Act… No more excuses. Laken Riley deserved better.”
The Left will, no doubt, cry foul over the ERIC ADAMS Act. But Americans see what’s happening. We’re witnessing preventable crimes—rapes, assaults, murders—because spineless mayors put radical open-borders ideology ahead of law and order.
This bill sends a clear message: you don’t get to ignore federal immigration laws, invite chaos into your city, and walk away clean when blood is spilled.
