WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) is under federal investigation for alleged mortgage fraud, with experts warning that the case presents significant legal challenges and could result in substantial fines and penalties.
The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) referred the matter to the Department of Justice (DOJ) after an internal review identified discrepancies in Schiff’s mortgage applications. Specifically, Schiff is accused of misrepresenting his primary residence status on properties in both Maryland and California, potentially violating federal laws related to wire fraud, mail fraud, and false statements to financial institutions .
