However, because the No Secret Police Act, as presently enacted, does not apply equally to all law enforcement officers in the state, it unlawfully discriminates against federal officers,\u201d Snyder wrote.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>She also cited the Constitution\u2019s Supremacy Clause, which essentially states that federal laws supersede state laws.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Pamela Bondi praised the ruling in a post on X Monday. She stated that federal agents are increasingly targeted for performing their duties and warned that the law would exacerbate existing safety risks.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cANOTHER key court victory thanks to our outstanding @TheJusticeDept attorneys,\u201d Bondi said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing our arguments, a district court in California BLOCKED the enforcement of a law that would have banned federal agents from wearing masks to protect their identities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese federal agents are harassed, doxxed, obstructed, and attacked on a regular basis just for doing their jobs. We have no tolerance for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as6124\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The court ruling blocked the facial-covering ban but upheld the state\u2019s \u201cNo Vigilantes Act,\u201d which requires all officers to display their agency affiliation and a personal identifier, such as a badge number, on their uniforms.<\/p>\n<p>California Governor Gavin Newsom described the ruling as a \u201cwin,\u201d highlighting that it supports his policy objectives, even though the court struck down the other measure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA federal court upheld California\u2019s law requiring federal agents to identify themselves \u2013 a clear win for the rule of law. No badge and no name mean no accountability,\u201d Newsom said. \u201cCalifornia will keep standing up for civil rights and our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last September, Newsom signed the Democrat-pushed measures into law in response to federal immigration law enforcement operations in California. The state argued that these laws were valid safety regulations, comparing them to speed limits and other traffic laws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach of the challenged provisions is a legitimate exercise of California\u2019s police powers that \u2018at most, only incidentally affects\u2018 federal immigration and law enforcement,\u201d the court documents said.<\/p>\n<p>California added that the act does not \u201ccontrol, impede, or grant \u2018virtual power of review\u2019 over federal law enforcement activities, and therefore it does not amount to an unconstitutional direct regulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The state has paused the enforcement of laws against federal agencies, even though the start date is set for January 1, 2026. The pause will remain in effect while the court reviews the U.S. request for a preliminary injunction.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div>Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Bondi stated that the Trump administration will continue to fight for the protection of federal agents amid what she described as intense scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue fighting and winning in court for President Trump\u2019s law-and-order agenda \u2014 and we will ALWAYS have the backs of our great federal law enforcement officers,\u201d Bondi said.<\/p>\n<p>Federal immigration authorities, meanwhile, have begun aggressively arresting and prosecuting civilians who follow or monitor enforcement operations in Minneapolis, part of a broader federal crackdown on what officials describe as interference with law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0latest incident\u00a0involved 42-year-old Becky Ringstrom, a mother of seven who was detained on January 29 after trailing federal immigration officers in her gray Kia SUV through a suburban neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>According to a bystander video verified by Reuters, Ringstrom was boxed in by unmarked vehicles before at least six masked agents surrounded her car, one striking her windshield with a metal object before taking her into custody.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Getty Images This article may contain commentary which reflects the author&#8217;s opinion.
