Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez publicly condemned the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good, describing the incident as a \u201cmurder\u201d and calling for prosecution. Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident, was fatally shot by an agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Wednesday, Jan. 7, in a case that has prompted widespread public reaction.<\/p>\n

The Department of Homeland Security said the shooting occurred after Good allegedly attempted to strike an immigration officer with her vehicle. The incident happened just a few blocks from her home and has drawn strong negative responses from community members and her family.<\/p>\n

But also, the incident has been highlighted by Republicans as the inevitable result of Democratic leaders and elected officials calling out ICE agents and their immigration enforcement colleagues for months, chastising them as \u201cnazis\u201d and racists. During the same timeframe, DHS has repeatedly said that attacks on their agents have skyrocketed as high as 1000 percent.<\/p>\n

Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s remarks were typical and equally inflammatory, describing the shooting as \u201cmurder\u201d and adding, \u201cMurders in cold blood need to be prosecuted.\u201d She noted further, \u201cThis has now become what we feared most about ICE for a long time\u2014that it would be used as an anti-civilian force with no accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n

She noted the proximity of the shooting to the site where George Floyd was killed, stating, \u201cWe\u2019ve seen what happened to this woman just a few blocks away from where George Floyd was murdered.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we saw today was a criminal murder. A woman was shot in the head while trying to flee, and this is every American\u2019s worst nightmare of their government turning into a tyranny,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

When asked if the officer should be arrested, she reiterated, \u201cI think what we saw was murder today and it needs to be prosecuted.\u201d Regarding claims that Good was attempting to use her vehicle as a weapon, Ocasio-Cortez said, \u201cTheir editorializing of this event to justify a public murder is disgusting.\u201d<\/p>\n

The irresponsible accusations, which at the moment are baseless, are sure to only further inflame the left, which is likely her objective.<\/p>\n

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, meanwhile addressed the incident, stating that Good allegedly \u201cwas trying to block officers with her vehicle, had been harassing them throughout the day, and attempted to run a law enforcement officer over.\u201d She also said the ICE agent who fired at Good was struck by her vehicle, taken to a nearby hospital, treated and released.<\/p>\n

She added that ICE agents had made more than 1,500 arrests in Minnesota alone, and that Democrats pursuing \u201csanctuary\u201d policies to shield illegal aliens from deportation were a big part of the problem.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, other prominent Democrats, including Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar and Governor Tim Walz, both Democrats, voiced their outrage after the shooting.<\/p>\n

In a statement on X, Walz, who is facing a tidal wave of fraud accusations from federal officials, claimed in response to a DHS post, \u201cI\u2019ve seen the video. Don\u2019t believe this propaganda machine. The state will ensure there is a full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following news of the shooting, Omar said: \u201cICE must stop terrorizing our communities and leave our city.\u201d<\/p>\n

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey echoed her response, urging agents to leave the city immediately.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a message for ICE. To ICE: Get the f*** out of Minneapolis,\u201d Frey said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon. \u201cWe do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are being hurt. Families are being ripped apart. Long-term Minneapolis residents that have contributed so greatly to our city, to our culture, to our economy are being terrorized. Now, somebody is dead. That\u2019s on you, and it\u2019s also on you to leave. It\u2019s on you to make sure that further damage, further loss of life and injury is not done,\u201d he further claimed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
