Rapper Mysonne Linen, who previously served seven years in state prison for armed robbery, repeatedly mispronounced Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani\u2019s last name during a Friday appearance on The Breakfast Club.<\/p>\n

Mamdani recently named Linen to his transition team\u2019s criminal legal system committee\u2014though even that rollout appeared sloppy, with Linen\u2019s name misspelled on the official roster as \u201cMysoone.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the interview, Mysonne Linen cycled through several pronunciations of Mamdani\u2019s last name, none of which appeared to be correct, underscoring the casual unseriousness surrounding the mayor-elect\u2019s transition operation,\u00a0according to The Daily Caller<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really just want to focus on just doing this work. Shout out to Mayor Mandami and his team. My team, Until Freedom, we\u2019ve been doing this work \u2026 I\u2019m not getting no check for this,\u201d Linen said. \u201cThis is a volunteer because I really believe in what\u2019s supposed to be going on in our communities. We\u2019re going to start forums where we talk about civic engagement with formerly incarcerated, we talk about how hard it is for them to be employed, the collateral damages and causes that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to talk about those things, and then we want to talk about what\u2019s the next step forward. Women that\u2019s being incarcerated \u2014 We\u2019re going to start these convenings and we\u2019re going to have them all at the table,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike, that is one of the biggest voting blocks in the world that nobody has really tapped into. Formerly incarcerated people \u2014 a lot of them don\u2019t even realize they can vote, how strong they are. It\u2019s millions of people who are formerly incarcerated that have really just lost belief in the system,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Linen then pronounced Mamdani as \u201cMandami\u201d and \u201cMandani\u201d before describing how he would not be blindly loyal to the incoming mayor.<\/p>\n

\u201c[W]e\u2019re gonna push the agenda. People think, \u2018Oh, you with the government.\u2019 Nah. If they do something wrong, I\u2019ma be outside protesting Mandami, too,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2018Cause that\u2019s what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Linen, 49, was convicted in 1999 for two Bronx taxi cab robberies and served seven years in state prison before rebranding himself as a criminal justice activist focused on gun violence prevention. During the interview, he claimed he was \u201cwrongfully convicted,\u201d a familiar refrain in activist circles.<\/p>\n
