Jasmine Crockett of Texas offered a lengthy, meandering response about her position on reparations during a Thursday appearance on REVOLT News\u2019 \u201cThe People\u2019s Brief.\u201d Crockett, who is running for the U.S. Senate, previously said on \u201cThe Black Lawyers Podcast\u201d in April 2024 that she was open to exempting Black Americans from paying taxes as a form of reparations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>During the REVOLT News interview, host Lynae Vanee said there was \u201csome misinformation\u201d about Crockett\u2019s stance, but Crockett did not clearly restate or clarify her position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that anybody that knows me knows that I\u2019m a fan of, you know, making sure that people understand our contributions as well as acknowledging the harm that has happened as it relates to our people,\u201d Crockett said. \u201cAnd so for me, it\u2019s always been about what is it that we can actually get passed?\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">\n<div id=\"e1c09a52-67a1-44a3-a58e-fc2bf67380c6\" class=\"_ap_apex_ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cBecause I feel like what we do is we constantly have the conversation and we\u2019re like \u2018Reparations, reparations.\u2019 But it\u2019s like, all right, so if we were to move forward in any way, what does that look like?\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd so, you know, I look at it like I think it takes kind of some bold, unapologetic people to move the needle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No American alive today was ever a slave or born into slavery in the U.S.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Crockett then shifted her focus to criticizing President Donald Trump for suggesting that those prosecuted for their involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot should be compensated, as well as for his proposal to make the tax cuts from 2017 permanent.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as6078\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe know that Donald Trump advocated for reparations for January 6ers, right?\u201d she said, as though compensation for wrongful prosecution and payments to former slaves is the same thing. \u201cAnd so it\u2019s like, why is that not a big controversy, right? Like, I mean, that\u2019s a bit more controversial in my mind, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo why is it that we can sit here and be okay with the fact that billionaires are going to get historic tax cuts that are permanent and we\u2019re not talking about like really evaluating what could move the needle as it relates to how far behind we got because of our contributions basically just from slave labor and yeah,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Crockett also said she was working on \u201ctruth and reconciliation\u201d in the House. She introduced the \u201cUnited States Commission on Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Concurrent Resolution\u201d in June to create a congressional commission examining the effects of alleged \u201csystemic racism\u201d against black Americans, along with continuing \u201cracial inequities\u201d that she never named.<\/p>\n<p>Per the Daily Caller, just over one-third of Americans even support paying reparations to descendants of slaves.
