She has reportedly mandated staff to provide comprehensive memos detailing their responsibilities in anticipation of forthcoming layoffs and has personally engaged in the network\u2019s booking process, contacting guests and influencing coverage priorities, which notably include a feature for her sister, Suzy Weiss, co-founder of Free Press.<\/p>\n<p>The new editor-in-chief has been discreetly soliciting candidates for a new anchor for the flagship show, and among external prospects, Weiss has proposed Baier as a prospective contender, sources\u00a0informed\u00a0Status\u2019 Oliver Darcy.<\/p>\n<p>Although internal candidates like as Norah O\u2019Donnell and Tony Dokoupil are still under consideration, Weiss has allegedly engaged in discussions with other colleagues on the potential inclusion of the Fox stalwart into CBS, a strategy that Darcy contended \u201cindicates the network\u2019s direction under Ellison\u2019s ownership.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">\n<div id=\"e1c09a52-67a1-44a3-a58e-fc2bf67380c6\" class=\"_ap_apex_ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Baier, earning over $14 million annually and regarded as Fox News\u2019s most refined Beltway anchor, renewed his contract in 2023, extending it until 2028, as noted by Darcy, rendering an abrupt transition unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>Weiss\u2019s attempt to recruit the Fox News anchor is not her inaugural effort to get the services of an individual already contracted with Fox during her initial tenure as CBS News chief.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>The newly appointed Editor-in-Chief attempted to secure the participation of former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo\u2014a contracted Fox News contributor\u2014in a recent panel alongside other former Secretaries of State, notwithstanding Pompeo\u2019s exclusivity agreement with Fox. The endeavor was unsuccessful, and the panel discussion continued without him<\/p>\n<p>A network insider claims that CBS News employees opposing their new supervisor are either excessively \u201cprogressive\u201d or \u201cquite elderly.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"as6078\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Bari Weiss was officially appointed editor-in-chief of CBS News earlier this month following the acquisition of her site, The Free Press, by Paramount.<\/p>\n<p>The decision faced criticism from both internal and external sources, with some referencing her background in opinion and insufficient broadcast expertise.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, a CBS News insider\u00a0indicated\u00a0that employee concerns regarding Weiss within the newsroom stem from two separate factions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally young people who, frankly, might be [more] progressive than they should be, and the really old people who feel protective of a brand that no longer exists anyway,\u201d the CBS News insider told Fox News Digital of colleagues who are \u201caghast\u201d Weiss was hand-picked by Paramount CEO David Ellison to lead the news division.<\/p>\n<p>The insider said the older staffers who long for Walter Cronkite\u2019s CBS News \u201cdon\u2019t know how to grow with the times,\u201d and some younger colleagues object to Weiss being so passionately pro-Israel and anti-\u201cwoke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone in between was like, \u2018Yeah let\u2019s try something new,\u2019\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The insider said a large majority of the newsroom is open-minded and well aware that Weiss \u201claunched a hyper-successful media company\u201d and clearly has a \u201cgood pulse\u201d on the American zeitgeist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe probably needed a course correction, and an unwillingness to acknowledge that would lead to perpetual third place,\u201d the CBS News insider said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t share the viewpoint that she was going to come in and butcher everything, and I\u2019ve been right so far,\u201d the insider added. \u201cShe\u2019s forced us to think in a way that we weren\u2019t doing as much of before. I welcome that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They added the reaction from some colleagues mirrored the state of broadcast news, where a \u201crefusal to evolve\u201d has hurt many careers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was never like, \u2018Oh my God, she\u2019s going to destroy our brand.\u2019 As [a] third-place network, you would think you\u2019d be wide open to new ideas,\u201d the insider said, referring to \u201cCBS Evening News\u201d and \u201cCBS Mornings\u201d both routinely floundering behind rivals on ABC and NBC.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Getty Images This article may contain commentary which reflects the author\u2019s opinion.
