CNN anchor Jake Tapper questioned the White House explanation for bandages seen on President Donald Trump\u2019s hands, suggesting undisclosed health issues during a segment of\u00a0The Lead<\/em>\u00a0on Thursday. Health questions surrounding Trump have intensified after photos showed bruising on his hands, swelling in his ankles, and limited public details about a recent MRI.<\/p>\n

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters this week that the bandages were the result of frequent handshaking and Trump\u2019s daily aspirin regimen, Mediaite\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President is literally constantly shaking hands,\u201d Leavitt said. \u201cThe Oval Office is like Grand Central Terminal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s also on a daily aspirin regimen, which is something his physical examinations has said in the past as well, which can contribute to that bruising that we see,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Tapper said the explanation did not add up when compared to other public officials.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe haven\u2019t seen bruising like this on the hands of other presidents who also presumably shake a lot of hands or senators,\u201d Tapper said.<\/p>\n

Tapper questioned why Trump underwent an MRI if there was no underlying issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is something going on with his health that they\u2019re not telling us, because otherwise, why did he have that MRI?\u201d Tapper said.<\/p>\n

CNN contributor David Axelrod said the lack of transparency was fueling speculation.<\/p>\n

\u201cLack of transparency is a common theme throughout all of these discussions,\u201d Axelrod said. \u201cClearly something\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Axelrod said similar scrutiny applied to President Joe Biden should also apply to Trump. \u201cThe questions that were raised relative to President Biden, they should be raised now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Tapper noted Trump has previously described himself as a germaphobe who dislikes shaking hands.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you buy this explanation?\u201d Tapper asked.<\/p>\n

CNN contributor Alyssa Farah Griffin, who worked in the first Trump administration, said unanswered questions could worsen public speculation. \u201cThere\u2019s going to have to be a better answer,\u201d Griffin said. \u201cThe rumors and the speculation must take on a life of their own if there\u2019s not some sort of a clear medical answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Griffin added that she does not expect greater transparency from the administration. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to get a whole lot more information than what we\u2019ve gotten so far,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Axelrod said a straightforward response would help resolve the controversy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow about the truth?\u201d Axelrod said. \u201cHow about facts?\u201d<\/p>\n

Tapper said the situation mirrors past debates over presidential health disclosures.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened with Biden is instructive,\u201d Tapper said.<\/p>\n

In October, President Trump revealed that he underwent an MRI during his most recent medical checkup at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and that the results came back \u201cperfect,\u201d pushing back on recent speculation about his health from major media outlets.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Tokyo, Trump confirmed the scan took place during what he described as his \u201csemi-annual physical.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 47th president joked about the thoroughness of the test and dismissed questions about why it was ordered.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did, I got an MRI \u2014 it was perfect,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWe had an MRI, and the machine, you know, the whole thing, and it was perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n

When pressed on why he underwent the imaging procedure, Trump replied, \u201cYou could ask the doctors.\u201d<\/p>\n

The MRI was conducted at Walter Reed on Oct. 10 as part of a broader medical evaluation that Trump characterized as routine. The White House described it as a continuation of a series of checkups that began earlier in the year, including a full physical in April.<\/p>\n

Trump told reporters that his medical team had given him \u201csome of the best reports for the age\u201d and insisted that the results were entirely normal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I didn\u2019t think it was going to be good, I wouldn\u2019t run,\u201d Trump said, referring to his 2024 re-election campaign.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
