He reportedly admitted to placing two pipe bombs \u2014 one near Republican National Committee headquarters and another near the Democratic National Committee \u2014 the night before the Capitol riot. Neither device detonated.<\/p>\n<p>Two officials familiar with the FBI\u2019s interview said Cole told investigators he was a Trump supporter but also made statements that suggested \u201canarchist leanings,\u201d complicating efforts to establish a clear motive. \u201cIt\u2019s not yet clear what the drivers were,\u201d one official told the outlet.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">\n<div id=\"e1c09a52-67a1-44a3-a58e-fc2bf67380c6\" class=\"_ap_apex_ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Federal investigators have found no evidence that Cole coordinated with militant groups or other demonstrators who entered the Capitol the next day, according to those same sources.<\/p>\n<p>Cole\u2019s arrest came after a yearslong investigation using license plate readers, cell tower data, and forensic analysis to identify the suspect seen in surveillance footage carrying a backpack and placing the devices outside party headquarters.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Although Cole\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/law-and-order\/2025\/12\/05\/report-j6-pipe-bomb-suspect-confesses-claims-to-support-trump-despite-familys-business-suing-administration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described himself<\/a>\u00a0as a supporter of Trump, records show his family business had clashed with the Trump administration in court shortly before the 2021 attack.<\/p>\n<p>Cole and his father, Brian Cole Sr., ran a bail-bonding company called StateWide Bonding, Inc., which specialized in securing the release of illegal immigrants from federal detention. Crump, who represented the families of George Floyd and Trayvon Martin, demanded a federal review.<\/p>\n<p>A Tennessee appeals court later found sanctions against the Cole family\u2019s firm to be justified, citing \u201crepeated misconduct.\u201d The court said Cole Sr. lied about his financial background, concealing prior bankruptcies and tax liens.<\/p>\n<p>According to the FBI affidavit, Cole Jr. began purchasing components for bomb-making as early as May 2019, long before the 2020 election. Prosecutors allege he acted alone, using parts acquired over several years to assemble the crude explosive devices.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities have not detailed a political motive but said Cole\u2019s confession included remarks about the 2020 election being \u201cstolen\u201d from Trump.
