This is happening while other states work to redistrict the whole country. The justices decided that the plaintiffs didn\u2019t prove that the redistricting process was unfair to black people in North Carolina.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThough not fatal to their claim\u2026Williams Plaintiffs have presented no direct evidence that the General Assembly enacted S.B. 249 to discriminate against black North Carolinians,\u201d the panel\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/greggiroux\/status\/1993812651944906968?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1993812651944906968%7Ctwgr%5Ea83362600a20fe7aa466bfa8eb15e4f2f2a535f0%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftownhall.com%2Ftipsheet%2Fscott-mcclallen%2F2025%2F11%2F27%2Ffederal-court-rejects-challenge-to-north-carolinas-redistricting-map-n2667120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0in the 57-page ruling. \u201cInstead, the direct evidence shows that the 2025 redistricting was motivated by partisan purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judges said that the plaintiffs failed to show that the redistricting process discriminated against black North Carolinians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough the court\u2019s decision keeps North Carolina at the center of this national mid-decade redistricting battle, we will continue to show eastern North Carolina families why they matter most,\u201d he said. \u201cWe will not let these blatant power grabs silence the voices of eastern North Carolinians.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\"><\/div>\n<p>A nationwide redistricting battle is unfolding, largely encouraged by President Trump, as Republican-led legislatures across several states face growing pressure from the former president and his allies to create additional GOP-leaning congressional districts and solidify the party\u2019s House majority.<\/p>\n<p>In North Carolina, Republican lawmakers advanced a new congressional map, joining a series of states\u2014including Texas and Missouri\u2014undertaking aggressive redistricting efforts ahead of next year\u2019s midterm elections. The proposed map would target the district currently represented by Democratic Rep. Don Davis and give Republicans a likely advantage in 11 of the state\u2019s 14 House seats, up from the current 10.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Once\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/5595810-gop-redistricting-black-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">enacted<\/a>, North Carolina\u2019s new map would bring the number of newly drawn, Republican-favored districts nationwide this year to seven.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina has become the latest GOP-controlled state to launch a mid-decade redistricting effort \u2014 a process that has historically been uncommon, CNN\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/21\/politics\/north-carolina-republicans-redistricting-battle-map-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina Sen. Ralph Hise, a Republican involved in overseeing the redistricting process, emphasized the high stakes of the effort in blunt terms.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as6078\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe motivation behind this redraw is simple and singular: draw a new map that will bring an additional Republican seat to the congressional delegation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>If Democrats take control of the House, they will \u201ctorpedo President Trump\u2019s agenda,\u201d Hise noted further, per CNN.<\/p>\n<p>State lawmakers convened their first public meeting on the new congressional map Monday morning and approved the proposal in the state Senate the following day, despite strong opposition from Democrats and protesters who gathered at the Capitol in Raleigh.<\/p>\n<p>The measure now heads to the state House for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Under North Carolina law, Democratic Gov. Josh Stein does not have the authority to veto redistricting plans, CNN said.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina remains a battleground state, with Democrats such as Stein and former Gov. Roy Cooper winning statewide elections in recent years. However, Republican leaders this week defended the newly drawn congressional map\u2019s partisan tilt, arguing that it reflects Trump\u2019s continued electoral successes there.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div>\n<div id=\"e1c09a52-67a1-44a3-a58e-fc2bf67380c6\" class=\"_ap_apex_ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis new map respects the will of the North Carolina voters who sent President Trump to the White House three times,\u201d the state Sen. Phil Berger, the top Republican in the Senate, said in a statement, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Republican lawmakers in Texas initiated the latest round of redistricting earlier this year with a map designed to create five additional GOP-leaning congressional districts.
