Ken Buck, R-Colo., and Kay Granger, R-Texas, both made their announcements, with Buck telling MSNBC his decision is related \u201cin part to his party\u2019s reliance on former President Donald Trump\u2019s false claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve decided, Andrea, I\u2019m not going to seek re-election,\u201d Buck said in an interview on MSNBC\u2019s \u201cAndrea Mitchell Reports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado Republican revealed his decision after Granger, 80, announced she would be stepping away next year as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m joining Kay and probably some others in the near future, but I\u2019ve decided that it is time for me to do some other things,\u201d Buck said. \u201cI always have been disappointed with our inability in Congress to deal with major issues, and I\u2019m also disappointed that the Republican Party continues to rely on this lie that the 2020 election was stolen and rely on the Jan. 6 narrative and political prisoners from Jan. 6 and other things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He noted further: \u201cIf we\u2019re going to solve difficult problems, we\u2019ve got to deal with some very unpleasant truths or lies and make sure that we project to the public what the truth is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Buck added that he doesn\u2019t plan to leave the Republican Party, noting that the 2024 elections are \u201ccritical\u2026 both at the presidential level and in the House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her statement, Granger, chairwoman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, said she believes it\u2019s time for someone younger to take her place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I announce my decision to not seek re-election, I am encouraged by the next generation of leaders in my district,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s time for the next generation to step up and take the mantle and be a strong and fierce representative for the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough I am not running for re-election, I plan to serve out the remainder of my term and work with our new Speaker and my colleagues to advance our conservative agenda and finish the job I was elected to do,\u201d Granger added.<\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"6OAltM5-nkU\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"entered litespeed-loaded\" title=\"GOP Rep. She previously served as mayor of Fort Worth. Buck\u2019s district covers the eastern portion of Colorado, east of Denver. Both represent safe Republican districts, according to the Cook Political Report.<\/p>\n<p>Both lawmakers were among the House Republicans who voted to certify Joe Biden\u2019s election in 2020, splitting from the 147 members of their conference who voted to overturn the results.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following Trump\u2019s 2016 victory, a majority of Democrats and left-wing talking heads on cable news refused to accept his win, calling him an \u201cillegitimate president\u201d who only won because of Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s assistance, a claim that several investigations have debunked.<\/p>\n<p>That included his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, whose campaign was found to have initiated the \u2018Russian collusion\u2019 hoax, according to special counsel John Durham\u2019s probe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuck was recently among eight Republicans who voted to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., as speaker. He also opposed Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, in his bid for speaker. Granger was instrumental in blocking Jordan\u2019s speaker bid as the only committee chairperson to repeatedly vote against him. She and a group of appropriators formed the core of the anti-Jordan bloc,\u201d NBC News reported.<\/p>\n<p>As for Trump, he is far and away leading the 2024 GOP primary field.
