Bruna Ferreira was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Revere, Massachusetts,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcvb.com\/article\/karoline-leavitt-family-connection-ice-arrest\/69547219\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to a report Tuesday night<\/a>\u00a0from Boston\u2019s WCVB.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Ferreira, who has an 11-year-old son with Michael Leavitt \u2014 the press secretary\u2019s brother \u2014 emigrated from Brazil as a child. She is currently being held at an ICE facility in Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Leavitt, a resident of New Hampshire, informed WMUR that his son lives with him and his wife full-time. He mentioned that Ferreira maintains a relationship with her son, but added that his son has not spoken to Ferreira since her arrest several weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Leavitt said in a statement that his \u201conly concern has always been the safety, well-being, and privacy of [his] son.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\"><\/div>\n<p>Ferreira\u2019s attorney said his client came to the U.S. under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which was imposed by then-President Barack Obama.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s in the process of actually getting her residency and she was abruptly arrested and taken from her young child right before Thanksgiving,\u201d her attorney Todd Pomerleau told WCVB, according to a statement from a source who spoke to the outlet.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis individual is the mother of Karoline\u2019s nephew and they have not spoken in many years,\u201d the source added. \u201cThe child has lived full-time in New Hampshire with his father since he was born. He has never resided with his mother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson also issued a statement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as6078\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cICE arrested Bruna Caroline Ferreria, a criminal illegal alien from Brazil. She has a previous arrest for battery. She entered the U.S. on a B2 tourist visa that required her to depart the U.S. by June 6, 1999,\u201d the statement said. \u201cShe is currently at the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center and is in removal proceedings. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, all individuals unlawfully present in the United States are subject to deportation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her attorney, however, disputed the government\u2019s claim that his client has a criminal history, but he did not address her status of allegedly being in the U.S. illegally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBruna has no criminal record whatsoever,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know where that is coming from. Show us the proof. There\u2019s no charges out there.
