Stephen Lynch (D-MA), who represents South Boston, made the remarks during an interview with CNN\u2019s Omar Jimenez as lawmakers reacted to President Trump\u2019s signing of legislation to reopen the government.<\/p>\n<p>The comments were quickly highlighted by RNC Research, which wrote on X, \u201cDemocrat Rep. Vance sharply criticized Democrats in an interview on Thursday night, accusing them of \u201cinflicting pain on Americans all for nothing\u201d after Congress voted to reopen the federal government following the longest shutdown in U.S. history.\u00a0Speaking on Fox News\u2019 \u201cHannity,\u201d Vance said the 43-day shutdown \u2014 which ended after President Donald Trump signed a short-term funding bill on Wednesday \u2014 exposed how far the far-left wing of the Democratic Party was willing to go in its opposition to the administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s what the Democrats actually accomplished,\u201d Vance said. \u201cThey caused a lot of stress for our troops. They made our air traffic controllers not get paid. They caused flight cancellations. They made families think they wouldn\u2019t get their food benefits. All for literally nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance argued that Democrats\u2019 real motivation was not fiscal policy, but political sabotage. \u201cThey don\u2019t care if the troops don\u2019t get paid. They don\u2019t care if they shut down the airline industry,\u201d he said. \u201cThey don\u2019t care if they have to burn the entire country down in order to get Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-13\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>The vice president said the final agreement that reopened the government was identical to one Democrats had rejected six weeks earlier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe could have struck this exact deal 45 days ago,\u201d Vance said. \u201cIn fact, we met with Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer and said we will pass this exact deal.
