A Nov. 14 executive order said new recommendations and progress in trade negotiations made it \u201cnecessary and appropriate to further modify the scope\u201d of products covered by the tariffs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>The directive also stated that \u201ccertain agricultural products shall not be subject to the reciprocal tariff imposed under Executive 14257, as amended.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move adjusts portions of the \u201creciprocal tariffs\u201d Trump introduced in April under his \u201cLiberation Day\u201d national emergency declaration, which focused on reducing trade deficits,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/11\/15\/donald-trump-announces-rollback-beef-coffee-banana-tariffs-affordability-crisis-executive-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Daily Caller reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\"><\/div>\n<p>A White House fact sheet released with the order states \u201ccertain qualifying agricultural products will no longer be subject to those tariffs, such as certain food not grown in the United States.\u201d Specifically affected items include \u201ccoffee and tea; tropical fruits and fruit juices; cocoa and spices; bananas, oranges, and tomatoes; beef; and additional fertilizers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hours after the order was announced, Trump described the change as a targeted adjustment. \u201cWe just did a little bit of a rollback on some foods like coffee,\u201d Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Asked if the tariffs contributed to higher food prices, Trump acknowledged that it was likely \u201cI say they may, in some cases,\u201d but he added, \u201cto a large extent they\u2019ve been borne by other countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as6078\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The rollbacks come as prices for key grocery items continue to climb, including an 18.9% increase in roasted coffee, a 12.9% rise in ground beef, and a 6.9% increase in bananas compared with September 2025, according to the latest Consumer Price Index data.<\/p>\n<p>The revised tariff order marks a notable shift in President Trump\u2019s second-term economic strategy, which has centered on sweeping global import duties aimed at bolstering U.S. manufacturing. The move also follows a series of Democratic victories in November\u2019s off-year elections, in which concerns about the cost of living played a significant role among voters, the Caller added.<\/p>\n<p>That said, the victories were mostly all in solid blue areas, leaving some political analysts to question whether they were really a rejection of Trump and Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats claimed the rollback validated their opposition to the tariffs. \u201cPresident Trump is finally admitting what we always knew: his tariffs are raising prices for the American people,\u201d Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia wrote in a statement Friday. He further claimed that, after recent electoral losses, \u201cthe White House is trying to cast this tariff retreat as a \u2018pivot to affordability.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Food Industry Association\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmi.org\/newsroom\/latest-news\/view\/2025\/11\/14\/fmi-praises-president-trump-s-actions-to-reduce-tariffs-on-food-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resoundingly applauded<\/a>\u00a0Trump for signing a presidential order that reduces tariffs on food and agricultural products.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div>\n<div id=\"e1c09a52-67a1-44a3-a58e-fc2bf67380c6\" class=\"_ap_apex_ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cFMI is grateful and extremely pleased at President\u2019s Trump\u2019s actions to cut tariffs on a wide swathe of food and agriculture products,\u201d the organization said in a statement posted to its website. \u201cToday\u2019s action should help consumers, whose morning cup of coffee will hopefully become more affordable, as well as U.S. manufacturers, which utilize many of these products in their supply chains and production lines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany factors impact the price of food on grocery store shelves \u2013 including weather and crop yields, energy and transportation costs, packaging, and labor, among many others. Tariffs are an important factor in this complex mix of supply chain effects.
