Longtime Republican Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell is fighting for her life after a horrific stabbing in her Lewisville, Texas, home that left her critically injured and claimed the life of her husband, Fred Mitchell. The brutal attack occurred in the early hours of Monday morning. According to police, the suspect\u201423-year-old Mitchell Blake Reinacher, Mitchell\u2019s own grandson\u2014used a serrated kitchen knife to carry out the assault.<\/div>\n<\/header>\n

Officers responded to a 911 call shortly before 4 a.m. and arrived within five minutes to find both victims with severe stab wounds. Fred Mitchell succumbed to his injuries just after 5 a.m., while Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell underwent emergency surgery and is now listed in stable condition. According to a press release:<\/p>\n

This morning, at approximately 3:53 a.m., Lewisville Police Department officers responded to a report of an assault in progress in the 1000 block of Springwood Drive. Upon arrival, officers located two adult victims\u2014a male and a female\u2014both suffering from apparent stab wounds.<\/p>\n

The suspect, a family member of the victims, was still on scene and was immediately taken into custody without incident. Lewisville Fire Department personnel rendered aid and transported both victims to area hospitals. She is a former Lewisville City Council member and was the city\u2019s first Black mayor, elected in 1993. She held the office until her resignation in January 2000 to run for her current county position. Commissioner Mitchell is listed in stable condition and is being treated for stab wounds.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Commissioner Mitchell\u2019s husband, Fred Mitchell, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after 5:00 a.m. The suspect, Michell Blake Reinacher, the grandson of the victims, has been booked into the Lewisville jail and is presently charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
