Former U.S. President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/strong>\u00a0has demanded an official investigation into what he called a \u201ctriple sabotage\u201d during his appearance at the\u00a0United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)<\/strong>\u00a0this week.<\/p>\n

Trump claimed that three separate technical failures disrupted his visit: an\u00a0escalator<\/strong>\u00a0suddenly stopped while he and former First Lady Melania Trump were riding it, his\u00a0teleprompter<\/strong>\u00a0malfunctioned during his address, and there were alleged\u00a0audio issues<\/strong>\u00a0inside the assembly hall.<\/p>\n

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cA REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday \u2014 not one, not two, but three very sinister events! This was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He said the incidents were \u201ctoo coincidental to be accidents\u201d and announced that the\u00a0U.S. Secret Service<\/strong>\u00a0had opened a review. Trump also said he had sent a letter to\u00a0UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres<\/strong>\u00a0requesting that all security footage be preserved, particularly around the escalator\u2019s emergency-stop button.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the UN,\u00a0St\u00e9phane Dujarric<\/strong>, dismissed the notion of sabotage and offered alternative explanations for each issue.<\/p>\n

  • A U.S. delegation videographer\u00a0walking backward<\/strong>\u00a0on the escalator likely triggered its\u00a0automatic safety stop<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • The\u00a0teleprompter<\/strong>\u00a0used during Trump\u2019s speech was\u00a0operated by his own staff<\/strong>, not the UN\u2019s technical team.<\/li>\n
  • The\u00a0sound system<\/strong>\u00a0in the hall continued functioning for delegates through their interpreter earpieces, despite minor transmission issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Dujarric said the UN takes all technical failures seriously but emphasized that \u201cthere is no evidence whatsoever of intentional interference.\u201d<\/p>\n
