President Donald Trump\u2019s got some rare praise from the Senate\u2019s most left-wing members on immigration policy last week.<\/p>\n

During an appearance on The Tim Dillon Show, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Trump \u201cdid a better job\u201d securing the border than President Biden and urged Democrats to refocus on stronger enforcement measures.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo long as we have nation-states, you\u2019ve got to have borders,\u201d Sanders said. \u201cIf you don\u2019t have any borders, then you don\u2019t have a nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump did a better job,\u201d Sanders admitted. \u201cI don\u2019t like Trump, you know, but we should have a secure border, and it ain\u2019t that hard to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comments, which aired in Wednesday\u2019s episode of the podcast and have since spread widely across X and YouTube, represent one of the sharpest public breaks between the Vermont independent and the party he caucuses with.<\/p>\n

\u201cBiden didn\u2019t do it,\u201d he added, going on to fault several administrations for failing to enforce border security and laws prohibiting illegal immigration.<\/p>\n

The clip quickly drew attention across the political spectrum, with the Republican National Committee\u2019s research division sharing it on X just hours after it aired.<\/p>\n

Sanders, who twice sought the presidency on a populist economic platform, has occasionally diverged from his party\u2019s stance on immigration. During the 2020 campaign, he cautioned Democrats against embracing \u201copen borders\u201d rhetoric. In his latest comments, he said the United States has the \u201ctechnology and manpower\u201d to secure the border but argued that leaders in both parties have failed to act effectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to sit here and tell you that overall [Biden] did a good job \u2014 it was not,\u201d Sanders said,\u00a0per Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

U.S. Customs and Border Protection recorded 2.47 million migrant encounters in fiscal year 2023 \u2014 the highest number ever reported \u2014 compared with roughly 458,000 during President Trump\u2019s final year in office, Fox noted.<\/p>\n

Sanders made his remarks while promoting his new book, \u201cFight Oligarchy,\u201d and responding to host Tim Dillon\u2019s questions about the future direction of the Democratic Party\u2019s platform.<\/p>\n

The comments represent a notable shift from Sanders\u2019 2020 presidential campaign, when he downplayed concerns about a \u201cborder crisis\u201d and accused then-President Trump of \u201cdemonizing immigrants.\u201d<\/p>\n

During a Fox News town hall in March 2020, Sanders said he \u201cwould not close the borders\u201d even in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, calling such measures \u201cxenophobic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier, in January 2019, as President Trump delivered a prime-time address urging immediate action to address what he called a border crisis, Sanders dismissed the warning, saying, \u201cWe don\u2019t need to create artificial crises\u201d at the border.<\/p>\n

Given that kind of history, Sanders\u2019 remarks on the podcast mark a significant reversal on the issue, as well as a ringing endorsement of Trump\u2019s strict border enforcement efforts.<\/p>\n

Trump has appointed longtime border enforcer Tom Homan as his \u201cborder czar.\u201d Homan\u00a0discussed his role<\/a>\u00a0and why he decided to come out of retirement to take the job after Trump offered it last year in an exclusive interview in Washington, D.C., with The Alex Marlow Show podcast.<\/p>\n

He talked with Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Marlow in detail what he characterized as the human and social costs of policies promoting mass immigration. When asked about the threats and attacks against him on a daily basis, Homan told Marlow: \u201cI don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they held the dead children I\u2019ve held, talked to little girls as young as 9 who were raped multiple times by handlers from the cartel, standing on the back of a tractor-trailer when 19 people are at your feet because they baked to death, including a 5-year-old boy\u2026running operation in Arizona where alien smuggling cartels are ripping bodies from each other with drugs, and when someone couldn\u2019t pay their smuggling fees, they\u2019d torture them and call their relatives and let them listen while they torture them and kill them because they couldn\u2019t pay the fees. These are just a few things,\u201d Homan said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
