Vice President Vance\u00a0<\/span>said the\u00a0leaked text messages\u00a0sent by Virginia Democratic attorney general nominee\u00a0Jay Jones\u00a0<\/span>are \u201cfar worse\u201d than the\u00a0newly exposed Young Republicans\u2019 chat\u00a0in which members made comments about gas chambers, slavery and raping their enemies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is far worse than anything said in a college group chat, and the guy who said it could become the AG of Virginia,\u201d Vance said in a post Tuesday\u00a0on the social platform X.<\/p>\n

Vance attached a screenshot of a text conversation in which the Democratic candidate appeared to acknowledge he had hoped\u00a0the former Republican Virginia House Speaker\u2019s children would die.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I told you this before,\u201d Jones purportedly wrote in the chat. \u201cOnly when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vance said he would not feign outrage over the new revelations about the Young Republicans while Jones remained in the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cI refuse to join the pearl clutching when powerful people call for political violence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0Politico story\u00a0exposed 2,900 pages of messages this year between a dozen leaders of the Young Republican National Federation \u2014 the GOP\u2019s 15,000-member political organization for Republicans between 18 and 40 years old.<\/p>\n

The chats included messages that used racial and homophobic slurs, referred to Black people as monkeys and \u201cthe watermelon people,\u201d talked about sending their political opponents to gas chambers and mused about raping their enemies and driving them to suicide. The messages also lauded Republicans who they believed supported slavery, Politico reported.<\/p>\n

One message read: \u201cGreat. I love Hitler.\u201d<\/p>\n

The messages obtained by Politico spanned more than seven months and were part of a chat among Young Republican leaders in New York, Kansas, Arizona and Vermont.<\/p>\n

The Young Republican National Federation\u00a0condemned the messages and called for immediate resignations of all those involved.<\/p>\n
