Until then, the huge racketeering case will remain unresolved.<\/p>\n<p>Willis\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/georgias-top-court-discards-fani-willis-final-bid-to-prosecute-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0she respects the legal system and the courts, even though she didn\u2019t agree with the court\u2019s choice not to look into her appeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope that whoever is assigned to handle the case will have the courage to do what the evidence and the law demand,\u201d Willis said, adding that her office will make case materials available to the council.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as5808\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Steve Sadow, Trump\u2019s lead attorney in Georgia, in a statement said the state\u2019s high court had \u201ccorrectly denied review.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWillis\u2019 misconduct during the investigation and prosecution of President Trump was egregious, and she deserved nothing less than disqualification. This proper decision should bring an end to the wrongful political, lawfare persecutions of the President,\u201d Sadow said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Willis charged Trump and more than a dozen of his friends with treason because he said they worked together illegally for months to stop former President Joe Biden\u2019s 2020 election win in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and the other people accused pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<p>As Trump ran for a second term in the White House, he was charged with several crimes. In New York, he was found guilty on 34 counts of forging business records.<\/p>\n<p>It became public that Willis was seeing Nathan Wade, a top lawyer on the Georgia case. This changed the course of the case.<\/p>\n<p>Willis was also hit with another setback after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/conservativebrief.com\/trump-fani-willis-case-92836\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">being disqualified from prosecuting<\/a>\u00a0the case she brought against President Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Willis began prosecuting the case against the president and 18 other defendants on charges that they attempted to overturn the 2020 election, but was removed from the case after it was discovered that she hired her lover, Nathan Wade, as the lead prosecutor.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegeorgiavirtue.com\/georgia-courts\/willis-appeal-reaches-the-supreme-court-of-georgia\/#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a>\u00a0a bill, Senate Bill 244, which was passed by the state legislature, that would require the state\u2019s taxpayers to reimburse defendants in cases where the prosecutor has been disqualified.<\/p>\n<p>Steven Sadow, the attorney who has represented Trump in the case, spoke to \u00a0Forbes and said that the governor signing the legislation \u201crepresents a major turning point in holding unethical, opportunistic, and deceitful prosecutors accountable for their misconduct.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The legislation says that criminal defendants are \u201centitled to an award of all reasonable attorney\u2019s fees and costs incurred\u201d if the prosecutor who is in charge of the case is disqualified for misconduct, and the defendant has the charges against them dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>The state senator who sponsored the legislation, Sen. Bradley Beach, said that he was motivated by the Trump case, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/politics\/georgia-state-legislature\/taxpayers-could-be-on-the-hook-for-trumps-legal-fees-in-georgia-election-case-under-senate-bill\/P4M23APNPRCI7OHUBPSC5UH36M\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The appeals court\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/conservativebrief.com\/georgia-from-88025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">removed Willis<\/a>\u00a0from the case against Trump in December.<\/p>\n<p>The court did not go further by throwing out President Trump\u2019s indictment altogether, but Willis and the assistant DAs working in her office now have \u201cno authority to proceed,\u201d according to the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Willis was ordered to pay over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/conservativebrief.com\/trump-fani-willis-case-92836\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$54,000 in attorney fees<\/a>\u00a0for violating Georgia\u2019s Open Records Act, according to court documents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Getty Images This article may contain commentary which reflects the author&#8217;s opinion.
