President Donald Trump announced a new agreement aimed at significantly lowering the cost of fertility treatments for American families.<\/p>\n

Speaking from the Oval Office, the president said his administration successfully reached a deal with EMD Serono, the U.S. division of German pharmaceutical company Merck, to cut prices on in-vitro fertilization (IVF) medications by up to 84 percent.<\/p>\n

Trump described the agreement as part of a broader effort to make family-building more affordable, emphasizing that the high cost of fertility care has placed it out of reach for many Americans.<\/p>\n

Trump announced that his administration will soon release guidance encouraging employers to provide fertility benefits for their employees.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll dramatically slash the cost of IVF and the treatment and many of the most common fertility drugs for countless millions of Americans,\u201d Trump said during a press conference.<\/p>\n

He went on to stress the broad implications of the new policy and deal with Merck. \u201cThis will make all fertility care far more affordable and accessible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The president also pointed to potential benefits for millions of families. \u201cThe result will be healthier pregnancies, healthier babies and many more beautiful American children,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The initiative seeks to address a major challenge facing American families struggling with infertility.<\/p>\n

An estimated 10 million women nationwide experience difficulties conceiving, and the financial burden of treatment remains one of the biggest obstacles. A single round of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) costs an average of $25,000, making it inaccessible for many couples.<\/p>\n

The expense is compounded by the fact that multiple IVF cycles are often necessary to achieve a successful pregnancy. Data from 2023 indicates about 432,000 IVF cycles were performed across the United States, resulting in roughly 95,860 births \u2014 a success rate of about one in five, according to the\u00a0Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Trump said the agreement would deliver substantial savings for families, helping make fertility treatments more affordable and attainable.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a result of these actions, the per cycle cost of drugs used in IVF will fall by an estimated 73 percent for American consumers, and the numbers are going to actually be very substantially higher as time goes by,\u201d explained Trump.<\/p>\n

The partnership between the Trump administration and EMD Serono restructures how fertility medications are distributed to consumers in the United States.<\/p>\n

Under the new agreement, EMD Serono will sell medications directly to patients at significantly reduced prices through TrumpRx, a federal website created to facilitate affordable access to fertility treatments.<\/p>\n
