House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) blasted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) over a reported plan by the Democratic leader to keep the government shut down at least until a left-wing rally scheduled for Oct. 18 in Washington, D.C., is held.<\/p>\n

In an interview with \u201cFox & Friends\u201d on Friday, Johnson said Republicans have learned that Democratic leaders want to wait until after a scheduled \u201cNo Kings\u201d rally in DC on Oct. 18 is held before they will agree to vote to reopen the government, in order to appease the party\u2019s left-wing base.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m normally a patient guy, but I have HAD it with these people. They\u2019re playing games with real people\u2019s lives,\u201d a clearly frustrated Johnson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have a Hate America rally scheduled for Oct. 18 on the National Mall. Pro-Hamas, Antifa people, they\u2019re all coming out. House Democrats selling T-shirts for the event,\u201d he went on. \u201cIt\u2019s being told to us they can\u2019t reopen the government until after that rally, because they can\u2019t face their rabid base!\u201d<\/p>\n

The White House\u00a0sharply rebuked<\/a>\u00a0Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Thursday after he said the ongoing federal government shutdown was \u201cgetting better\u201d for Democrats \u2014 a remark that drew outrage across Washington and underscored the growing political divide as the standoff drags on.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0Punchbowl News, Schumer reportedly said, \u201cEvery day gets better for us,\u201d claiming Democrats had long prepared for the political fallout and were benefiting from Republican struggles to hold the line.<\/p>\n

We knew that health care would be the focal point on Sept. 30,\u201d Schumer said, suggesting Democrats had planned their messaging around the shutdown well in advance, Fox News\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n
