As the Schumer Shutdown drags into its second week, Republican leaders are warning of devastating consequences for military families facing missed paychecks and growing financial strain.<\/p>\n

Republican Study Committee Chairman Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, a former Air Force officer, said he\u2019s hearing directly from service members whose families are struggling to make ends meet as Democrats continue to block funding bills, Townhall\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pfluger, who served his country with distinction, said the situation has left troops wondering how they will afford their next meal.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring [a shutdown] you can\u2019t focus on the mission or the threat,\u201d Pfluger said. \u201cOur commanders today \u2014 and quite frankly all of our personnel \u2014 are having to focus on whether or not they\u2019re going to be able to make ends meet. Those that are deployed \u2014 the stress that they already endure with deployments is now triple, quadruple, because now their spouses are at home, maybe with new babies, wondering if they\u2019re going to be able to put food on the table.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pfluger was joined by House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., on an exclusive press call with reporters on October 10. All three men previously chaired the Republican Study Committee.<\/p>\n

The lawmakers blasted Democrats for allowing the shutdown to drag on and accused Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of putting his political ambitions ahead of the nation\u2019s military and federal workforce.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis shutdown isn\u2019t about helping everyday Americans \u2014 it\u2019s about Chuck Schumer\u2019s raw fear of his radical base turning on him,\u201d Pfluger said.<\/p>\n

The Texas congressman also pointed to a remark from a senior Democratic aide, who reportedly said the party \u201cwon\u2019t budge short of planes falling out of the sky.\u201d Pfluger called it a \u201cvile and deeply offensive\u201d statement that shows \u201chow little empathy the Left has for those who serve.\u201d<\/p>\n
