He called the action \u201cunprecedented.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Ignatius\u2019s comments on MSNBC\u2019s Morning Joe on Thursday came after host Joe Scarborough said that during peace discussions, both Israeli and Arab officials agreed that \u201cif anyone was going to be able to resolve\u201d the situation, \u201cit would be Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ignatius replied, \u201cSo, Joe, on the two sides of that, I can remember in the month or so after October 7, an Israeli senior official saying to me, we are so disoriented and traumatized by this war. The United States is going to have to make decisions for us. Joe Biden could never do that. And Donald Trump was able to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as5808\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>He continued: \u201cAnd [he] did it at the decisive moment when he said, essentially, this war must end and Israel cannot annex the West Bank, which many right-wing Israelis wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ignatius then praised Trump for showing regional leaders in the Middle East that he was \u201cserious\u201d about peace while \u201cquietly\u201d sending his team and \u201cunlikely emissary\u201d Steve Witkoff to work \u201cbehind the scenes week by week\u201d toward a final 20-point peace plan.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThat is something that Joe Biden, for all his desire for peace, wasn\u2019t able to do,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the show, Ignatius had said: \u201cThis war was blocked for two years. President Biden, who preceded him, was unable to find a way to stop it. President Trump found that way by being tough on both sides. And he will take a victory lap for sure over the next few days, but it\u2019s deserved. There\u2019s no way that I can see that this would have been done without Trump\u2019s pressure in the final hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><iframe src=\"https:\/\/share.grabien.com\/share?id=3172032&amp;userid=17447&amp;loginid=15879&amp;playercolor=%23ee1a3b&amp;playersize=auto&amp;code=47cd72ddd692fb761a4f25167a681d32\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>New York Times columnist Elisabeth Bumiller jumped in and noted that she was in Israel last year and that people told her that \u201conly Donald Trump\u201d would be able to achieve the peace deal.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWell, I just would like to first say that, you know, I was in Israel last summer and to a person, Israelis said to me that the only person who can resolve this war is Donald Trump. And these are not all Israelis who are big fans of Donald Trump. But they just felt that he alone in the world had the kind of leverage and the kind of pressure he could put on president \u2014 on Netanyahu to get this done,\u201d Bumiller said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd as we can see, he \u2014 you know, Netanyahu was backed into a corner, not just by \u2014 by the Europeans, by \u2014 by Americans, but, you know, worldwide he was increasingly isolated. And Israelis were deeply, deeply unhappy with Netanyahu. And so it\u2019s \u2014 it\u2019s very interesting to see the \u2014 the celebrations in Tel Aviv. I \u2014 you know, those were \u2014 the country last summer was really \u2014 it\u2019s largely in despair about what was going on with the war and with \u2014 with the government,\u201d Bumiller added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, again, I will have to see how this plays out. This is \u2014 you have to give Donald Trump this victory for now. And again, as we\u2019ve all been talking about, the trouble is \u2014 is ahead. You know, will Hamas disarm? How far will Israel \u2014 how far will the IDF pull back in Gaza and who will govern Gaza going to the future? Those are big, big questions.
