Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) mocked White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, calling him a \u201cclown\u201d and encouraging her followers to \u201claugh\u201d at what she described as the \u201cinsecure masculinity\u201d of men in the Trump administration.<\/p>\n
Speaking during an Instagram Live session, the progressive congresswoman told her 13 million followers that humor was a \u201cpowerful\u201d weapon against what she called the \u201cauthoritarian tendencies\u201d of the Trump White House.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe point is that they are scraping and grasping at straws because they have nothing else,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez said. \u201cLaugh at them. Stephen Miller is a clown! I\u2019ve never seen that guy in real life, but he looks like he\u2019s, like, [4 feet, 10 inches tall]. He looks like he is angry about the fact that he\u2019s [4 feet, 10 inches] and he\u2019s taken that anger out on any other population possible. Like, laugh at them.\u201d<\/p>\n
She continued, \u201cOne of the most powerful cultural things you can do to a political movement that\u2019s predicated on the puffery of insecure masculinity \u2014 that\u2019s what this is about \u2014 is to make fun of them. One of the best ways to dismantle a movement of insecure men is by making fun of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ocasio-Cortez, who frequently uses livestreams to mix political commentary with personal interaction, said humor is more effective than outrage when confronting what she sees as extremism.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you laugh at people who think cruelty is strength, you rob them of their power,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
