{"id":15997,"date":"2025-10-06T23:31:58","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T23:31:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cndailynews.store\/?p=15997"},"modified":"2025-10-06T23:31:58","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T23:31:58","slug":"3-dem-senators-buck-schumer-vote-on-government-funding-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cndailynews.store\/?p=15997","title":{"rendered":"3 Dem Senators Buck Schumer, Vote On Government Funding Vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three members of the Senate Democratic caucus broke with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) on Tuesday and voted for a House Republican-drafted bill to fund the government through Nov. 21, showing that Democrats disagree on how hard to go after the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">\n<div id=\"e1c09a52-67a1-44a3-a58e-fc2bf67380c6\" class=\"_ap_apex_ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), who is part of the Senate Democratic leadership team, voted for the GOP funding proposal together with Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) and Senator Angus King (Maine), an independent who works with Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>The measure failed 55-45, even though it needed 60 votes to move forward.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans will be introducing the bill again on Wednesday for a vote, where some believe even more Democrats could flip and pass the bill to re-open the government \u2014 which would be a brutal blow to Schumer.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Cortez Masto said she didn\u2019t want to make things worse for her voters who are already having a hard time with rising costs and a faltering economy by putting the government at risk of shutting down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis administration doesn\u2019t care about Nevadans, but I do. That\u2019s why I cannot support a costly shutdown that would hurt Nevada families and hand even more power to this reckless administration,\u201d she said in a statement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as5808\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>She said a government shutdown would \u201cforce tens of thousands of Nevada military personnel, union members, law enforcement agents and military nurses to work without pay\u201d and that it would throw hundreds of union contractors at the Nevada National Security Site and across her state out of work.<\/p>\n<p>King called the vote to keep the government open one of the toughest of his Senate career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just came from the Senate floor where I took one of the most difficult votes I\u2019ve taken since I\u2019ve been in the Senate,\u201d he said in a video statement. \u201cMany feel that this was an opportunity to stand up to Donald Trump, to vote no and to fight back.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe irony, the paradox is by shutting the government we\u2019re actually giving Trump more power and that was why I voted yes. I did not want to hand Dondald Trump and Russell Vought and Stephen Miller additional power to decimate the federal government,\u201d he said, referring to the White House budget director and Trump\u2019s senior domestic policy advisor.<\/p>\n<p>King pointed to Trump\u2019s statement in the Oval Office threatening to do \u201cirreversible\u201d damage to Democratic priorities if the government shuts down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can do things during the shutdown that are irreversible, that are bad for them and irreversible by them, like cutting vast numbers of people out, cutting things that they like, cutting programs that they like,\u201d Trump told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Fetterman was the sole Democrat to vote for the GOP funding measure. He has emphasized several times that he wants to prevent a government shutdown and has advised other Democrats not to go too far with a temporary financing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president has a lot of levers he could pull. This is one we could pull, but why would we pull that lever? Because that allows him to pull a lot more levers,\u201d Fetterman told reporters on Capitol Hill<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that would be the ideal for Project 2025,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThere are some Democrats who are very unhappy with the situation they\u2019re in,\u201d Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said at a press conference after the vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need \u2026 another five\u201d Democratic votes to pass the stopgap funding measure, Thune noted. \u201cWe need eight total.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans own 53 Senate seats, but they need eight Democratic votes to approve the budget plan because Sen.
