The incident occurred just weeks before the Supreme Court issued its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization, which overturned\u00a0<i>Roe v. Wade<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The eight-year sentence was significantly less than 30 years sought by the Department of Justice. Roske\u2019s defense team had requested an eight-year term, arguing that the defendant showed remorse and voluntarily contacted authorities before carrying out the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Boardman said during a sentencing hearing that while Roske\u2019s actions were \u201creprehensible,\u201d she also considered a string of mitigating factors, including that Roske \u201cspontaneously confessed to and cooperated with police.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>\u201cMaryland U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman\u2014a Biden appointee\u2014is a national disgrace,\u201d conservative lawyer Mike Davis, also strategist and former chief counsel for nominations to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, wrote on X on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe only sentenced to 8 years, instead of 30, someone who attempted to murder Justice Kavanaugh and his family in their home. Make no mistake: Today\u2019s Democrats want conservatives killed,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"as5808\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Another person wrote that Boardman \u201cneeds to be removed from the bench right the f\u2014 now.\u201d The same person also shared a screenshot of a different post indicating that Boardman asked if Roske would be sent to a women\u2019s prison despite the fact that he\u2019s biologically male.<\/p>\n<p>Author M.A. Rothman, meanwhile, called the sentence \u201cpathetic.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>\u201cA guy who showed up at a Supreme Court Justice\u2019s house armed and ready to k*ll him just got a lighter sentence than some people get for tax crimes \u2014 and the judge turned it into a trans acceptance story,\u201d he added. \u201cThis is beyond parody. The DOJ wanted 30 years. He got 8. She was confirmed by the Senate in 2021. Prior to her judicial appointments, Boardman worked as a federal public defender.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a letter submitted to the court last month ahead of sentencing, Roske wrote that the planned attack was not \u201crepresentative of who I am.\u201d He said that once confronted with the reality of the situation outside Kavanaugh\u2019s home, he abandoned the plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very glad I did not continue,\u201d Roske said in the letter, which he sent about a week after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. \u201cI am also sorry for contributing to a trend of political violence in American politics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I want is to go home to my friends and family and see what good I can do out in the world.
