{"id":15379,"date":"2025-10-01T18:10:50","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T18:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cndailynews.store\/?p=15379"},"modified":"2025-10-01T18:10:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T18:10:50","slug":"top-biden-aide-dishes-on-pardongate-hunter-and-joes-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cndailynews.store\/?p=15379","title":{"rendered":"Top Biden Aide Dishes On \u2018Pardongate,\u2019 Hunter, and Joe\u2019s Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A top aide to former President Joe Biden told the House Oversight Committee on Thursday that another staffer using his email credentials had approved some of the most controversial \u201cautopen\u201d pardons.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">\n<div id=\"e1c09a52-67a1-44a3-a58e-fc2bf67380c6\" class=\"_ap_apex_ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Jeff Zients also testified that first son Hunter Biden, who received a pardon himself, participated in pardon discussions, while also describing the former president\u2019s mental state in unflattering terms.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/09\/19\/biden-decline-jeff-zients-president\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a>, Zients \u2014 one of the highest-ranking officials in the Biden White House \u2014 confirmed that Joe Biden often struggled to recall dates and names and frequently needed additional briefings before making decisions in the final years of his presidency.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Rather than holding three meetings before reaching a decision, Biden preferred to have four. Zients mentioned that Biden has long struggled with remembering names and dates, but he admitted to investigators that the president\u2019s memory of these details worsened in the final years of his term.<\/p>\n<p>Jill Biden privately discussed \u201cmanaging Joe\u201d with Jeff Zients as he prepared to step into the role of chief of staff in early 2023, urging him to adjust the president\u2019s schedule to allow more rest and ensure he returned to the White House residence earlier in the evening.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as5808\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Deputy Chief of Staff Annie Tomasini also advised Zients on scaling back Biden\u2019s workload, including limiting travel distances and minimizing the use of stairs.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fox News, Zients \u201cadmitted that President Biden\u2019s speech stumbles increased as he aged,\u201d adding \u201cHe also noted that the president\u2019s difficulty remembering dates and names worsened over time, including during the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Zients told investigators that Hunter Biden participated in discussions about presidential pardons near the end of Joe Biden\u2019s term, including blanket pardons issued to several members of the Biden family during the president\u2019s final 24 hours in office.<\/p>\n<p>NBC News had previously reported that Hunter was present for White House meetings after Joe Biden\u2019s widely criticized performance in a June 2024 debate against Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden received a \u201cfull and unconditional\u201d pardon \u2013 one of the few the president actually signed himself \u2013 for his crimes in early December, less than two months before Joe left office.<\/p>\n<p>On Jan. 17, just days before his presidency ended, Biden approved nearly 2,500 commutations \u2014 part of more than 4,200 granted during his term. Both figures marked records, including the highest number ever issued in a single day by a U.S. president.<\/p>\n<p>Zients also said that he did not personally send the email authorizing the use of the autopen, and that instead \u201che had an aide with access to his email account send the authorization on his behalf for some of the most controversial pardons in recent history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The interview was part of an investigation led by House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) regarding President Biden\u2019s use of the autopen and whether his top aides concealed his mental decline in connection with its use.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre appeared before the House Oversight Committee a week ago for a high-profile interview on whether senior aides sought to conceal signs of mental decline in Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Now an Independent after leaving the Democratic Party, she did not speak to reporters before entering the closed-door, transcribed interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe intentionally wanted Jean-Pierre to be one of the last people we bring in,\u201d Comer told reporters on his way to the deposition.
