Trump said the strike destroyed a drug-laden vessel, killed\u00a011 cartel members<\/strong>, and caused\u00a0no U.S. casualties<\/strong>. The operation followed Trump\u2019s\u00a0July directive<\/strong>\u00a0authorizing the Pentagon to use lethal force against Latin American cartels officially designated as\u00a0terrorist organizations<\/strong>. Soon after, the U.S. formally classified Tren de Aragua as such, directly accusing Venezuelan President\u00a0Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/strong>\u00a0of commanding it.<\/p>\n

Maduro\u2019s Response<\/h3>\n

Caracas swiftly condemned the attack. Maduro, who has previously mobilized millions of militia members in response to U.S. naval deployments, vowed to defend Venezuela \u201cfrom any incursions.\u201d<\/p>\n

He accused Washington of fabricating a cartel-terrorism narrative to justify potential military intervention. On Monday, he threatened to declare a\u00a0\u201crepublic in arms\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0if U.S. forces attacked Venezuelan territory.<\/p>\n

The Cartel\u2019s History<\/h3>\n

Tren de Aragua, often identified by the\u00a0sun insignia<\/strong>\u00a0linked to Venezuelan generals, emerged during the era of\u00a0Hugo Ch\u00e1vez<\/strong>. Over decades, it partnered with Colombia\u2019s\u00a0FARC guerrillas<\/strong>\u00a0to funnel massive quantities of cocaine northward.<\/p>\n

U.S. prosecutors allege the organization not only profited but intentionally sought to\u00a0weaken American communities<\/strong>through narcotics.<\/p>\n

This summer, former Venezuelan intelligence chief\u00a0Hugo Carvajal<\/strong>\u00a0pleaded guilty in U.S. court to narco-terrorism conspiracy. Charges remain pending against Maduro and other top officials, including\u00a0Diosdado Cabello<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A Warning to Cartels<\/h3>\n

At the White House, Trump called the mission a vivid demonstration of his commitment to protect Americans from cartel violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you leave the room, you\u2019ll see that we just, over the last few minutes, literally, shot a boat \u2014 a drug-carrying boat,\u201d he told reporters. He added that the vessel had \u201ca lot of drugs\u201d on board.<\/p>\n
