A group of five Democratic lawmakers in Florida filed a legal challenge on Thursday against Governor Ron DeSantis, claiming he violated the law by preventing them from inspecting a controversial migrant detention center deep in the Florida Everglades. The facility, informally dubbed \u201cAlligator Alcatraz,\u201d has become the subject of growing national debate as red states consider similar projects.<\/p>\n

Fox News Digital reached out to the governors of 26 Republican states for comment. While most declined to provide specifics, several confirmed that plans for enhanced detention infrastructure were already underway.<\/p>\n

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp\u2019s spokesperson, Garrison Douglas, said the state is taking a leading role in immigration enforcement and is planning to build the \u201clargest detention facility in the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGovernor Kemp has long prioritized public safety and border security,\u201d Douglas stated. \u201cFrom banning sanctuary cities to reinforcing Georgia\u2019s role at the southern border, we\u2019ve set the standard. This new facility is just the next step.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Arkansas, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has advanced similar initiatives. Her office confirmed that the state is constructing a 3,000-bed prison designed in part to house undocumented immigrants who commit crimes. The project is part of a larger legislative effort that includes new penalties for illegal entry and expanded cooperation with federal immigration authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cGovernor Sanders is working closely with the Trump Administration to ensure violent criminal aliens are swiftly deported,\u201d said communications director Sam Dubke. \u201cThe state\u2019s new policies are tough but necessary, and they\u2019re already making a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, South Carolina\u2019s Governor Henry McMaster has reaffirmed his state\u2019s continued collaboration with federal agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur National Guard and law enforcement partners are fully engaged with federal officials to ensure immigration laws are enforced and deportations are carried out efficiently,\u201d said McMaster\u2019s spokesperson, Brandon Charochak.<\/p>\n

As the legal challenge in Florida moves forward, the case may have broader implications for how much authority state lawmakers possess when it comes to oversight of immigration enforcement. It also places a national spotlight on the growing divergence between red and blue states over how to handle unauthorized migration within their borders.<\/p>\n

The Florida Supreme Court has not yet scheduled a hearing for the case, but both sides appear prepared for a lengthy legal battle over the limits of executive power, legislative oversight, and the treatment of individuals detained under state authority.<\/p>\n
