Florida\u2019s top emergency management official is firing back at Democrats who tried to manufacture outrage over the state\u2019s new detention facility \u2014 dubbed \u201cAlligator Alcatraz.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kevin Guthrie, Executive Director of Florida\u2019s Division of Emergency Management, appeared on \u201cJesse Watters Primetime\u201d and said the political theater on display during a bipartisan tour of the facility was off the charts.<\/p>\n
More than 60 lawmakers showed up over the weekend, but Guthrie said some came to act, not observe.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbsolutely,\u201d Guthrie said when asked if anyone was trying to stir up controversy. \u201cOne of my favorites was an individual who had an infrared thermometer and pointed it at a light bulb. And it was 110 degrees. I said, \u2018Let\u2019s actually pull that down to where the ambient air is at, and not point it at the light bulb.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Democrats also complained about the toilet setup. Guthrie made it clear that the facility meets or exceeds all standards, state and national.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a standard lock-up toilet system that\u2019s in any secured facility,\u201d he said. \u201cThere is a sink there, there is a toilet there. Whether you\u2019re brushing your teeth or using the restroom, it\u2019s a restroom. That\u2019s what people do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Then came the turkey sandwich drama. Florida Democrat Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz reportedly described it as \u201cgray\u201d \u2014 without even opening the wrapper.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat might be one of my favorites,\u201d Guthrie said. \u201cShe was about six feet away from the turkey sandwich box, that was in a wrapper, so I don\u2019t know how she could tell it was gray. But let\u2019s be honest \u2014 hospital food, school lunches under Michelle Obama\u2019s program \u2014 it\u2019s the same thing. Nobody\u2019s getting filet mignon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s the bottom line: Democrats aren\u2019t upset about conditions \u2014 they\u2019re upset that we\u2019re actually enforcing immigration law. For years, they\u2019ve catered to illegal immigrants while ignoring the needs of American citizens.<\/p>\n
That ends now.<\/p>\n
If you break federal immigration law \u2014 and especially if you commit a violent crime \u2014 you\u2019re not getting a resort stay and a gift card.<\/p>\n
You\u2019re getting a cell.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not supposed to be comfortable. It\u2019s supposed to be a consequence.<\/p>\n
