President Donald Trump lit up social media with an early-morning scorched-earth rant over the indictment of \u201cDirty Cop\u201d James Comey, saying the disgraced ex\u2013FBI chief had finally dug his own grave, figuratively speaking of course.<\/p>\n

Comey, once the king of the swamp, now faces two of the three counts pushed by prosecutors: one for obstruction of justice and another for making false statements under oath.<\/p>\n

That \u201cfalse statement\u201d? According to the indictment, Comey flat-out told the Senate Judiciary Committee in September 2020 that he had never \u201cauthorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source\u201d for news reports tied to \u201cPerson 1.\u201d<\/p>\n

The kicker? The New York Times says \u201cPerson 1\u201d looks an awful lot like Hillary Clinton. The questioning, led by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), dug into the FBI\u2019s double-dealing during both the Trump-Russia hoax and the Clinton investigation. Now, years later, it looks like Comey\u2019s lies have come full circle.<\/p>\n

The transcript of the hearing at hand indicates Cruz asking Comey about the authorization of anonymous sources, noting that his former deputy, Andrew McCabe, had \u201cpublicly and repeatedly stated that he leaked information to the Wall Street Journal and that you were directly aware of it and that you directly authorized it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about who was lying, Comey said he stands by his testimony that he had \u201cnever authorized anyone to leak.\u201d For his part, Trump took to Truth Social to lay it\u00a0out in all caps<\/a>: \u201cJames Comey is a Dirty Cop!\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump didn\u2019t stop at gloating \u2014 he went further, blasting out a post laying out the case against his disgraced former FBI chief. Predictably, critics are already screeching that the DOJ is just carrying out Trump\u2019s orders. But the president wasn\u2019t about to stay quiet. He felt compelled to weigh in \u2014 and when Trump feels compelled, you know he\u2019s going to unload.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you like Corrupt James Comey or not, and I can\u2019t imagine too many people liking him, HE LIED!\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cIt is not a complex lie, it\u2019s a very simple, but IMPORTANT one.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president went on to claim Comey \u201cleft himself ZERO margin of error on a big and important answer to a question,\u201d and his confidence in addressing the question showed \u201che wasn\u2019t hedging or in dispute.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Comey responded with sanctimonious self-pity:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system\u2014and I\u2019m innocent,\u201d he said. \u201cSo let\u2019s have a trial. And keep the faith.\u201d<\/p>\n

Comey is set to be arraigned on October 9 in a federal court in Alexandria. He is expected to plead not guilty.<\/p>\n
