Case in point: Megyn Kelly, who took the stage at a Turning Point USA event at Virginia Tech. She went head-to-head with a liberal student who claimed President Trump\u2019s rhetoric somehow fueled Kirk\u2019s assassination.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s the playbook for the resistance, isn\u2019t it? It\u2019s never the killer\u2019s fault. It\u2019s never about the man who pulled the trigger. It\u2019s the gun\u2019s fault, or the conservative leader\u2019s words that supposedly \u201churt feelings\u201d and drove someone to violence. It\u2019s excuse-making dressed up as argument \u2014 and Kelly wasn\u2019t buying it.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy do you support a president who contributes to the rhetoric that got your friend Charlie Kirk killed?\u201d the student asked. \u201cWe saw his rally recently, he said, \u2018I hate my enemies.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Kelly immediately trashed that argument. \u201cThis is how we get here,\u201d Kelly responded. \u201cThat is a blatant lie, it\u2019s a defamatory blaspheme, and it\u2019s inappropriate in this setting.\u201d<\/p>\n
But the student doubled down, insisting that the president somehow \u201ccontributed to the atmosphere\u201d that led to Kirk\u2019s murder. It\u2019s the same tired dodge \u2014 blame Trump, blame conservatives, blame anyone but the actual assassin.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell then, you have no point. Then your point is utterly empty. \u2018Contributing to the atmosphere?\u2019 Let\u2019s just make clear, [Kirk\u2019s assassin] was motivated by leftist ideology,\u201d she fired back. \u201cWe know it from the bullet casings, we know it from the Utah governor, we know it from his own mother.\u201d<\/p>\n
