Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., over recent remarks about Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\"><\/div>\n<p>The motion failed 214\u2013213, preventing the measure from reaching a full House vote. Four Republicans \u2014 Reps. Mike Flood of Nebraska, Tom McClintock of California, Jeff Hurd of Colorado, and Cory Mills of Florida \u2014 joined Democrats in supporting the move.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., introduced the resolution Tuesday as a \u201cprivileged\u201d measure, requiring House leaders to act within two legislative days.<\/p>\n<p>Mace introduced the resolution in response to Omar\u2019s remarks following Kirk\u2019s assassination, which sparked strong backlash from conservatives over an interview with the far-left outlet Zeteo, where she criticized Kirk\u2019s past commentary as well as GOP reactions to his killing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>She told the outlet, days after Kirk\u2019s assassination, that he had previously \u201cdownplayed slavery and what black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth shouldn\u2019t exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"as5808\" data-title=\"You Might Also Like\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of people out there talking about him just wanting to have a civil debate,\u201d the \u201cSquad\u201d member said. \u201cThere is nothing more effed up than to completely pretend that his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kirk\u2019s technique, practiced on every college campus he visited, was literally to engage audience members who disagreed with his points of view.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to Explain America\u2019s Carmine Sabia, Mace ripped Omar over her remarks. \u201cIf you\u2019re Somalia first, you\u2019re not America first, and a one-way ticket to Somalia is the nicest thing we could do,\u201d\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-10\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>Earlier, in a response to Omar, Mace posted on the X platform: \u201cIf you celebrate murder, maybe Somalia can take you back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0statement\u00a0to Fox News Digital, Mace said Omar mocked the assassination of Kirk, who was a husband and father of two.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow she\u2019s lashing out because we called her out. What\u2019s not \u2018well\u2019 is celebrating political violence,\u201d Mace said. \u201cWhat\u2019s not \u2018smart\u2019 is defending it. Omar should be ashamed of herself. Omar can throw insults all day, but it won\u2019t save her from accountability. She crossed the line, and we\u2019re not letting her get away with it. Go back to Somalia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., later explained his vote against the measure in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying his \u2018no\u2019 vote was in support of the First Amendment\u2019s free speech clause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIlhan Omar\u2019s comments regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk are vile and contemptible. They deserve the harshest criticism of every man and woman of goodwill. But this disgusting and hateful speech is still speech and is protected by our First Amendment,\u201d McClintock said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCensure is formal punishment by the House, and we have already gone too far down this road. Omar\u2019s comments were not made in the House, and even if they were, they broke no House rules,\u201d he added. \u201cA free society depends on tolerating ALL speech \u2014 even hateful speech \u2014 confident that the best way to sort good from evil is to put the two side by side and trust the people to know the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<div data-delay=\"4000\" data-block=\"12\">\n<div>\n<div id=\"e1c09a52-67a1-44a3-a58e-fc2bf67380c6\" class=\"_ap_apex_ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Amid backlash over her interview, Omar later posted on X, \u201cWhile I disagreed with Charlie Kirk vehemently about his rhetoric, my heart breaks for his wife and children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t wish violence on anyone. My faith teaches me the power of peace, empathy, and compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She then turned to blame President Trump, which is a typical tactic by Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight-wing accounts trying to spin a false story when I condemned his murder multiple times is fitting for their agenda to villainize the left to hide from the fact that Donald Trump gins up hate on a daily basis,\u201d she falsely claimed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House of Representatives on Wednesday narrowly defeated a resolution seeking to censure Rep.
