Border czar Tom Homan said roughly 1.6 million undocumented immigrants have self-deported since President Donald Trump took office.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Fox News\u2019 Laura Ingraham, Homan highlighted the administration\u2019s progress in reducing illegal immigration. When she asked him about California Gov. Gavin Newsom\u2019s plan to require Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to refrain from wearing masks, Homan replied, \u201cWell, good luck with that. Federal law always trumps state law, local law.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further explained that ICE agents are \u201cafraid of people like him \u2014 politicians who want to compare ICE to the Nazis\u201d and that Newsom is \u201cthe one with the hateful rhetoric causing this, causing all these threats.\u201d<\/p>\n
The agents \u201cwear a mask because they don\u2019t want to be doxxed and their kids get doxxed and their spouses get doxxed,\u201d according to Homan, who affirmed that they have \u201cidentifying information\u201d on them.<\/p>\n
Threats and assaults against ICE agents have surged over the past year, with the Department of Homeland Security reporting a 500 percent increase in June and more than 1,000 percent by September. Incidents included physical attacks, shootings, and the doxxing of agents and their families.<\/p>\n
Homan further stated that the Trump administration is \u201cnot going to coddle to Governor Newsom\u201d and that Newsom \u201cought to be thanking President Trump for making his state safer.\u201d<\/p>\n
The discussion then shifted to deportation statistics. Homan mentioned that the administration has deported over 400,000 individuals since the president took office. \u201cBetween CBP and ICE, and that\u2019s just since the president took office. The first four months of the fiscal year \u2014 we can\u2019t count them because Joe Biden wasn\u2019t doing anything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He further stated that \u201cclose to 1.6 million already left the country on their own\u2026because they see what ICE is doing out there every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
The agency is expanding, Homan explained. \u201cICE is getting 10,000 more agents right now\u2026we\u2019re tripling the size of the workforce. We\u2019re adding more detention beds. We\u2019re adding more flights and more transportation. So the numbers are going to explode here.\u201d<\/p>\n
